Helping Fire Victims

On Saturday, I went to a city called Rancho Bernardo to help out some people whose houses got burned down. Unfortunately I forgot my video camera so there is no video of what I saw. But, it was an amazing experience. We went to this Man's house and the only thing standing was two stone pillars that were on his walkway. It was a very sad sight to see. My two friends and I started sifting through his house to find anything we could that had survived. We didn’t find much except for pottery. Everything else was destroyed. It was hard to look into his face when he would tell us where to search for belongings. Everything he ever owned was gone. He was telling us a story about how his 5 year old son was hiding under the covers of his bed when they were trying to get out of the house. It was impossible to not feel the pain that he felt. I am tearing up just picturing him talk about his family. We ended up finding one of his pocket knives and gave it to him. It was the only item we were able to save besides pottery. Even though we didn’t really do a whole lot, it was such a blessing to be able to help this guy out in anyway we could. Sad day.

San Diego Fires

These fires in San Diego have been absolutely crazy. At this point while writing this, over 500,000 people have been evacuated from their homes and over 1500 homes burned. I live in La Jolla, so I have not been evacuated but I have 2 people who have been staying at my house till this is over. I live 2 miles from the mandatory evacuation sites. The fires have crossed the 15 freeway last night and have spread very quickly towards Del Mar which is 3 miles north of me. I feel so bad for those people whose houses have been burned and all of their stuff is gone. I was watching the news and saw a reporter who was reporting in front of his house being burned down. It was very sad and really hit home to how devastating this is. A lot of people have been taken to Qualcomm Stadium and have been donating which is nice, but hopefully those people will have a home to go to after all this. It is very smoky where I live, and my nose has been burning for the last 2 days. I can't really complain though because I am still in a house. I am praying for these people who are in the hospital and those who have lost their homes and I hope they can stay strong through this. Below you will find a Google Map of the San Diego fires. The map displays road closures, evacuation areas and centers, and fire locations.

Life in SD Fires

The fires in San Diego have devistated many peoples lives. This is just a short video telling about what is going on where I live and showing the smoke around me.
